Where Ticks Hide On the Body

Apr 23rd 2019

Tick season has officially begun across Canada; and most Providences have tick problems stemming from the Black-legged Tick.

Ticks are found in grassy and wooded areas; and it's no surprise that tick bites occur most often in springtime when individuals are outside working in the yard; gardening; or hiking along trails.

For humans, ticks have a few natural hiding spots that we may tend to overlook. After outdoor activity, check these areas of the body for ticks, according to StoptheTick.ca:

  • the groin (between the legs)
  • back of the knees
  • armpits
  • scalp
  • inside the belly button
  • in and around the ears
  • around the waist
  • and in and around all body hair

If a tick is found, remove it properly with a tick removal tool and take the tick to a doctor for testing. Be sure to get checked for Lyme Disease, as well. This test will need to be requested and administered by a doctor.
