Mar 12th 2019
If you own a domestic dog or cat, chances are they are classified as overweight or obese.
Across North America, over 50 percent of dogs and cats are considered fat; and there are various reasons why: Over-eating; Not participating in activities; and over all, lethargic.
Dogs and cats that do not get at least 30 minutes of daily activity each day risk health complications including high blood pressure, weak joints/muscles and arthritis. These animals face a shorter life expectancy, as well.
To get pets-up and moving, pet owners are encouraged to play with animals in the fenced-in yard and work on strength training exercises that will help the dog run, jump and squat, using all four legs to workout. For cat exercise, they can play from within a cat enclosure with other animals and use a cat tower to pounce from one level to the next.
Pets will need to go on a strict diet, outlined by a veterinarian, in addition to exercising to get back in shape.
