Over 10,000 wildlife vehicle collisions occur every year in BC, resulting in approximately 570 personal injuries and 3 fatalities. Drivers will see an increase in deer on highways and major roads in the fall for one reason: sex.

Deer mating season starts in late October through November; and while bucks are prepping for the rut season, they will dash across traffic if they see a desirable mate.

Deer collisions on cars can be prevented if wildlife collision management plans are implemented. This means that deer fencing along major highways and roadways will need to be installed to reduce the risk of deer collisions with cars.
