Dealing With Deer and Rabbits? Here's What You Need

Jul 9th 2020

Home growers experiencing crop damage in gardens from deer and rabbits may be researching different types of garden fence. Here are a few things to consider:

Deer have their own personalities; but for the most part, they are creatures of habit; curious beings and mellow. Having a 7.5' fence will keep out Bambi, even if it's made from plastic construction. However, this solution only works well if the deer are not aggressive in nature. But for rabbits, plastic fencing will not work. Rabbits will use their teeth scissor action to gnaw through the fence. Therefore, rabbits will need a metal fence - but not any steel fence will do.

Bunnies will be able to fit through welded wire fence mesh; but they have trouble fitting through 1" x 1" mesh holes from hexagonal fence. So, when it comes down to it a Steel Hex Web Fence with PVC is best for rabbit control in gardens. This fence should be 2-3' tall and trenched into the ground at least 6" to prevent burrowing attempts. The fence material is strong enough to stop deer, rabbits, woodchucks and even coyotes, wolves and foxes from damaging plants.

When dealing with deer and rabbits, consider a plastic fence with rodent protection or a steel hex fence with pvc.
