Can Ticks Survive In Cold Weather?

Oct 21st 2019

Ticks are most active in the spring and summer months when the weather is warm; but just because the weather cools down in fall, doesn't mean their days are done. In fact, tick disease is common in autumn when outdoor enthusiasts are out gardening, camping, hiking and enjoying Mother Nature.

As long as temperatures remain above freezing ticks can easily attach onto wildlife, people and pets. During cooler months, ticks will hide underneath logs and leaves to seek shelter and insulation. Therefore, it's important not to rake leaves, or stack firewood, too closely to homes to avoid ticks wandering into homes.

Ticks remain a year-long concern; and it's important to wear long-sleeved clothing and tick repellent containing DEET when outdoors. Do a thorough tick check after outdoor activities; and know how to properly remove a tick from the skin.
