Best Fence For Dogs

Aug 28th 2019

There are many types of fence for dogs on the market, but the most popular types are chain-link and wireless fencing.

While chain-link fence is not glamorous, it is a great option for pet owners with large dogs. Dog breeds that are suitable for chain-link fencing include Mastiffs, Rottweilers and German shepherds.

Electric fencing, while used for bear deterrence and livestock security, should not be used on pets. In-ground dog fencing uses shock waves to trigger reactions in dogs; and when dogs get shocked, they become fearful to move. The use of wireless dog fencing harms dogs psychologically and physically.

However, there are better alternatives for dog breeds of all sizes.

Poly dog fencing can be used for small dogs or those with a calm demeanor. These plastic fences are not chew proof but are strong enough to secure small dogs such as beagles, yorkies and chihuahuas. No need for heavy duty chain-link fence with these types of dogs!

Metal fence is a great alternative to chain-link because it is lightweight but still PVC-coated to halt chew marks from high energy dogs. Metal fencing, in hexagonal shape or welded wire, is good for medium to larger dogs such as Golden Retrievers and Labradors.

When thinking about yard fencing for dogs, consider the type of dog that you have adopted and how they behave. This will steer pet owners in the right direction for fencing.
