Adopt Senior Dogs!
Nov 1st 2019
When thinking about pet adoption, our minds generally run to thinking about puppies and young dogs that we can run and play with in yards; however, there are many reasons to adopt older dogs. ASPCA encourages prospective pet owners to consider senior dog adoption in November. Here's why it's great to have an older furry best friend:
"For starters, puppies are adorable; but they teeth and wet themselves anywhere at any time. Because they have not had proper training just yet, they may be disobedient and mistrusting to people and other companion pets. All of these combinations can be frustrating to new pet owners. However, most of these problems that arise with adopting a puppy do not happen with older dogs." (Deerbusters.com)
Approximately 670,000 dogs in the United States are euthanized each year compared to about 3700 dogs in Canada. While the number of adoptions in Canada is up for dog adoption, the number of euthanization is still alarming. Let's move the number to zero! Adopt older dogs!
This month, consider adopting senior dogs from a local animal shelter; and install dog fencing in the yard for them. Remember, you can still teach an old dog new tricks!
