What is the Ideal Height of a Deer Fence?
May 5th 2016
Deer can jump an average of 8’ high, but will not risk the jump if they are uncertain. Would you voluntarily jump off a 2 story building, especially if you were unsure of the landing? For this same exact reason, nature makes deer reluctant to jump over a 7’ deer fence.
The eyesight of a deer is also a huge factor when it comes to our deer fencing. They have real trouble seeing the deer fence top. Deer see best in the yellow, deep blue and certain ultraviolet portions of the spectrum, and both polypropylene deer fencing and pvc-coated steel hexagrid deer fencing reflect these wavelengths poorly. On top of it all, they only have 20/100 daytime vision - quite poor compared to their nighttime view.
We have both 7.5’ and 8’ deer fencing heights available to ensure the best solution for your deer problem; and these heights are best for deer management and keeping away deer from landscapes.
